Suited and Booted

Pugh

This post was inspired entirely by Gareth Pugh’s stunning recent comeback collection for London Fashion Week. From it, I took the black (of course!), the red cross makeup, and the fur. And this is what I came up with…

The outfit itself is another gob-smacking bit of awesome from ZED. They’ve been making a lot of classic Goth mesh with a twist, and this Goth Military Outfit  caught my eye the instant I saw it.

Not only is is a fantastic and well-fitting design, it has those unusual touches that I adore in mesh fashion; namely the tight gaiter effect at the calves. The outfit comes with the jacket, pants, and boots, and it’s one of those rare occasions when I’ll happily wear everything in an outfit folder. Usually I like to switch it up and change the footwear or something, but even the boots are perfection in this outfit. Here, have a close-up of those…

Yeah. Black python boots. Be still, my beating wallet ;-)

So, you have some in-yer-face leathers, but on their own they’re not all that Pugh-ish:

What else do we need? Oh hell, we need bearskin! Uh, well okay, you  try and find bearskin in SL. You might find the headgear from the classic guard’s uniform (the kind that stands sentry-stiff outside Buck House) but you sure as hell won’t find anything else made from it. So what’s a self-respecting SL fashionisto supposed to do with this tragic lack of bearskin? Well, he makes do and mends. Or something.

Yeah, he goes and grabs this gorgeous mesh Northern Cape  by Pucca Firecaster. With a HUD that allows for several colour changes to both inside, outside, and fur (Skell went for all-black, natch) it’s smart enough to fit right in with this aesthetic, but it also wouldn’t look out of place in any historical region in SL. One of the options is even ‘bloodied’, which keeps perfectly in-theme with Pugh’s ethos for his collection: Rule Britannia and England’s Bloody History.

And boy, is this thing rigged beautifully. Look how it appears to flow in this shot:

Onto the makeup, and I was surprised just how hard it was to find a full facial cross tattoo that was either deep red or modifiable to be  deep red. I ended up using this Side Cross Makeup  by Squeek! and tinting it much darker. Since it obliterated Skell’s eyeliner and lashes (as well as half of his eyebrows, but then so did Pugh’s original St George’s slash of red paint) I decided to overlay it with some darker makeup. I found this lovely little L$25 cheapie from KK on Marketplace (sorry, I know; I hate not being able to give you anything more than ‘KK’ as a store name. I checked the creator’s profile and that was all they gave!)

Aaaand the hair. I love this damn hair. It’s the new Frank  style by Damselfly, and you’ll find it at this month’s Mens Dept collection. I do love a firm quiff, me ;-)

Earrings by Pekka, claws by ~*Souzou Eien*~ and eyes from IKON’s new Charm  range.
