Suited and Booted

Cry “God for Harry, England, and St George!”

I see you stand like greyhounds in the slips,
Straining upon the start. The game’s afoot:
Follow your spirit, and upon this charge
Cry “God for Harry, England, and Saint George!”
– William Shakespeare – Henry V

If you were standing within, ooh, about 100 meters of me when I saw the preview of this month’s Mens Dept collection, you might have heard a rather loud and undignified shriek of “Oh my GOD!” followed by the skedaddle of an avatar frantically trying to teleport into a packed-out region.

Yeah, that was the reaction I had when I saw these stunning  military greatcoats from Mr Poet. I’ve long been a fan of Mr Poet’s work; from way back in the days of their first all-in-one sculpted jackets with scarves, and if you look back through my Flickr fashion set you’ll see me wearing those things a lot.  But this? This is above and beyond all that. Holy fucking crap.

First things first: you will not  get that exact outfit in one go. Each greatcoat comes with its own colour-matched shirt, vest, pocket watch chain, stars, medals, neckerchief, and aiguillette. See this image on the Mens Dept Flickr stream for the exact colour options you’ll get in each set.

How did I get that exact colour set? Um, I bought every single one and dug through them, mixing and matching. What can I say? I’m a sucker for gorgeous clothing!

The coat works both with and without advanced lighting. Interestingly, it looks like leather when you have advanced lighting on, and wool when you don’t. That just adds to its versatility, if you ask me.

I’ve paired it up with some classic fall-front trousers from Heathcliff and boots from Hoorenbeek. The hair is also from the current Mens Dept collection, and it’s a lovely mussed style from INK that works perfectly for this kind of look.

I’ve used one of my go-to earrings: the Samedi set from Bliensen + MaiTai. These little mesh drop earrings are resizable and work perfectly for that dandy image I wanted to show here. And the final touch is the ring, by Chop Zuey Couture Jewelry. The gem is colour-change, so no matter how you wear the coat(s!) that you buy, you’ll find a gemstone to match them.

And now, having saturated you with shadowy, foresty images, have a couple of full-lighting studio shots, to get a better idea of the gorgeousness.

I forgot I had a facelight on. Sue me :p

Go forth and do battle against the French! um… go forth and shop. That’s it. Shop!
